The European GT Championship was an FIA series for Grand Touring cars, bringing together leading manufacturers, private teams and specialist entrants on major European circuits. Races ranged from shorter sprint events to demanding endurance contests, with regulations centred on production-derived GT machinery prepared for competition. The championship became an important proving ground for developments in aerodynamics, braking, suspension and engine performance, and featured many of the period’s most significant GT cars from manufacturers including Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Ford, Chevrolet and others.
