David Lapworth is a British motorsport engineer and one of the key technical figures in Prodrive’s rally history. He was closely involved in the development of Subaru’s World Rally Championship programme from the Legacy RS through the Impreza 555 and later Impreza WRC generations, during the period in which Prodrive ran Subaru’s works rally operation from Banbury. Lapworth is associated with the engineering development that helped turn Subaru into one of the dominant manufacturers of the 1990s WRC, contributing to the cars that won three consecutive manufacturers’ titles from 1995 to 1997 and later drivers’ titles with Richard Burns and Petter Solberg. He remained a central figure in the Subaru World Rally Team structure until the mid-2000s, when he was replaced by Paul Howarth in 2006.
