#ConcoursDÉléganceAixLesBains

The Concours d’Élégance of Aix-les-Bains was one of the most refined and enduring automotive elegance competitions in France, held annually from 1927 to 1967 in the prestigious spa town on the shores of Lac du Bourget. These events took place during the summer season and combined the presentation of automobiles with a celebration of fashion, grace, and lifestyle, where cars were judged not only for their design and finish but also for the harmony between the vehicle and the elegance of its passengers. The concours attracted prestigious manufacturers, renowned coachbuilders, and private collectors, becoming a symbol of post-war optimism and luxury culture. The automobiles paraded in front of large audiences, often accompanied by music and commentary, and awards were given for the most elegant and stylish combinations. Documented by period photographs and local publications, the Aix-les-Bains concours is a representative example of French taste in motoring and fashion, supported today by the work of historical associations such as the Société d’Art et d’Histoire d’Aix-les-Bains, which published a detailed monograph titled “Concours d’élégance automobile, 1927–1962” that preserves the memory of these glamorous gatherings and their role in shaping the cultural prestige of the automobile.
