#BillPollack
Bill Pollack, born William Mellette Pollack (New York, 7 July 1925 – Sherman Oaks, California, 16 July 2017), was an American racing driver and one of the pioneers of postwar West Coast sports car racing. A former World War II B-26 bomber pilot, he began racing in 1950 and became a leading figure in the early California road-racing scene, competing at venues such as Pebble Beach, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Torrey Pines, Golden Gate Park and Willow Springs. Especially associated with the Cadillac-powered Allard J2, he won the 1951 Pebble Beach Road Races and also raced machinery from Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Cooper and other marques. Pollack is also credited with helping design the Willow Springs road course and later recorded his experiences in the book Red Wheels and White Sidewalls: Confessions of an Allard Racer.
We'll publish a biography on him on the occasion of his anniversary or when it will be reached a sufficient number of cars.
