Augusto Zoboli was born in Modena on January 8, 1894, and died in Formigine in 1991. He was a multifaceted figure in 20th-century Italy — a painter, engraver, and art historian, as well as a Fascist party official and motorsport enthusiast. His artwork was exhibited at major events such as the Venice Biennale (1936 and 1942) and the Roman Quadriennale (1931), and he taught art history at the Liceo Classico L.A. Muratori in Modena. He was also editor of the cultural journals Mutina and La settimana modenese. During the 1930s, Zoboli held the position of Federale of the Fascist Party in Modena, overseeing the provincial party structure and cultural coordination. In parallel with his political and artistic roles, he was also active in motorsport: in 1935 he participated in the Targa Abruzzi (Coppa Acerbo) alongside Angelo Chieregato, driving a Fiat 508 CS Balilla entered by Scuderia Ferrari. In 1936, he competed in the Mille Miglia with co-driver Archimede Rosa, again with Scuderia Ferrari, finishing 27th overall and 10th in class. Zoboli’s diverse activities reflect the complex intersections of culture, politics, and sport in Fascist-era Italy. His artistic legacy is preserved in public collections such as the Sartori Collection in Mantua, and he remains a significant — if controversial — figure in the cultural and political history of Modena.
