Jack Bates was an American sports car enthusiast and amateur racing driver active in Southern California during the 1950s. President of Frank Monise’s foreign car dealership in Pasadena, he was closely connected with the local imported-sports-car scene and is especially remembered for campaigning a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. In period California Sports Car Club events, Bates also drove Ferrari sports-racing machinery, competing at venues such as Pomona, Santa Barbara and Riverside, where he achieved some of his best recorded results.
