#GalvestonIsland

Galveston Island hosted several notable sports-car events in the 1950s, including the Gran Carrera Lafitte and the Annual Golden Days Races. Using improvised road or airfield-style circuits, these meetings brought together privateers from across Texas, Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. The combination of coastal setting, enthusiastic local support and accessible SCCA organization made Galveston a distinctive node in the region’s post-war motorsport culture, now remembered as one of the more colorful and atmospheric stops on the Southern racing calendar.
