Ferdinand Alexander “Butzi” Porsche (1935–2012) was a German designer, the son of Ferry Porsche and grandson of Ferdinand Porsche. Unlike his father and grandfather, whose work was primarily engineering-based, he concentrated on form and product design, describing himself more as a technically minded craftsman than as an artist. He played the central styling role in the development of the Porsche 901/911, whose basic shape became one of the most enduring designs in automotive history, and also designed the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS. After the Porsche and Piëch families withdrew from the company’s day-to-day management in the early 1970s, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche founded Porsche Design, where he applied the same functional approach to industrial products, watches and other objects.
