#BriggsCunninghamII

Briggs Swift Cunningham II (1907–2003) was an American entrepreneur, sportsman, racing driver, team owner and car constructor. A major figure in postwar American sports car racing, he is closely associated with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he entered both European cars and machines built under his own name in an effort to establish a serious American presence in international endurance racing. Also an accomplished yachtsman, Cunningham skippered Columbia to victory in the 1958 America’s Cup. His later Cunningham Automotive Museum in Costa Mesa, California, became one of the most important early collections of historic sports and racing cars in the United States.
