FROM MONZA TO AMERICA: COMPLETING THE COMPETITION RECORDS

June 10, 2026

STARTING POINT
Ferrari 750 Monza chassis no. 0522/M was already known as an example delivered new to Franco Cornacchia’s Scuderia Guastalla and later exported to the United States, where it passed through important owners including Briggs Cunningham, Alan LeMay, Jack Bates and later Anthony W. Wang. However, its competition record was yet to be completely cleared.

RESEARCH
Extensive archival research and a cross-comparison of many period images carried out on Ferrari 750 Monza chassis no. 0522/M made it possible to expand, refine and critically reassess the car’s known competition history. The work identified and documented previously unrecorded or little-known appearances, including the Coppa della Lombardia and Gran Premio Supercortemaggiore at Monza, as well as several U.S. races from the late 1950s. It also questioned an attribution generally accepted by authoritative sources, namely the car’s participation in the Corsa in Salita sulle Torricelle, as the images found appear to show a car with only two engine-cover hooks rather than the four originally recorded for 0522/M. The (still ongoing) research further clarified the later American phase of the car’s career. These findings helped reconstruct a more complete and accurate picture of the car’s sporting life, from its Scuderia Guastalla period in Europe to its subsequent racing activity in the United States.
