Notes Engine  12° V-type - "Variante 1016" engine. The cylinder head of the Variant 1016 engines was prepared by the Lancia Esperienze Meccaniche Department, following the specific requirements of the Reparto Corse. Final assembly and racing preparation were completed at the factory competition workshop. These heads can be identified by the distinctive ESPER-MEC stamp beneath the intake manifold, and by the 1600 HF marking followed by the number 45 on the exhaust side. Built in 1968 in very limited numbers, they were fitted to some official works cars and remain exceptionally rare today. Engines equipped with these heads carried very low serial numbers, stamped on the flywheel housing (often below 100, such as 1021 or 1052), along with the marking VAR. 1016 or V.1016. The stamping itself was carried out by engineer Gianni Tonti, responsible for the Reparto Corse racing preparation. Unlike the standard HF heads used on the 1200, 1300 and 1600 versions, the Esper-MEC cylinder heads do not bear the usual three-number code in the coil ignition insert area. The Esperienze Meccaniche workshop was the special in-house facility where Lancia tested new components and developed its future engines.

Notes body  Following the accident at the Wiesbaden Rally, the original bodyshell was written off. The Reparto Corse received a new bodyshell from the Chivasso plant pursuant to request no. 01693 dated 2 July 1970. This replacement shell incorporated several strengthened areas, including the windscreen pillars, the reinforcements beneath the door sills, the front mounts of the rear leaf springs and the bulkhead separating the cockpit from the boot. The car was subsequently sent to the body shop for Group 4 preparation and for the installation of the roll bar. As a consequence, the bodyshell number changed. The stamped body code “540 1050 23,” located on the front bonnet ledge, identifies the type and production sequence of the shell. The prefix 540 refers to the Fulvia 1.6 HF (type 818.540), while the final “23” suffix denotes an HF-type body shell. During production, Lancia used such internal markings to distinguish standard Coupé shells from the lighter and reinforced structures of the HF versions. This specific code confirms that the body belongs to a genuine HF model—consistent with the chassis number 818.540 and the characteristics of the early “Fanalone” series.
