TRACING THE LEGACY: DETAILED INSIGHTS
January 10, 2025
STARTING POINT
The baseline overview was that of a handcrafted car with a significant racing history, but many aspects required clarification and validation, starting with the origin of the example and its consequent naming.
RESEARCH
Initially identified as the “Fiat 508 C Mille Miglia (Giovanni Guadagnin),” based on the analysis of numerous collected elements, we arrived at the definitive designation “Fiat Guadagnin 508 C (Antonio Ferrari).” Our work involved thorough research, cross-referencing, and analysis, which allowed us to chronologically detail the history of this example and uncover photographs, automobilia, and documents to enrich its historical dossier. Numerous elements about the car’s racing career were uncovered: detailed classifications and times, documents, stunning photographs, press reviews, correspondence, and advertising pages. Starting with the 1938 Mille Miglia and many other significant races, even extending to 1948. Moreover, we identified previously unknown races the car participated in, including the 1939 Tobruk–Tripoli and Circuito dell’Impero, supported by the discovery of a stunning period video. Additional races include the 1946 Sanremo–Poggio dei Fiori, the 1946 Circuito di Modena, and the 1947 Circuito Automobilistico di Piacenza. We also corrected its history by excluding an erroneously attributed event, the 1948 Mille Miglia. Lastly, we managed to locate several restoration photos of the car, which are crucial as they provide “historical continuity” between the period images and the restored vehicle.
