FAMOUS OWNER IDENTITY MISTAKE & OLD RESTORATION

April 13, 2017

STARTING POINT
It was believed that the 1955 Ferrari 250 Europa GT (Pinin Farina), chassis no. 0399GT, was the car of Sidney Chaplin, brother of Charlie Chaplin.

RESEARCH
Careful documentary and iconographic research and a comparison with the press of the time resulted in the fact that the car actually belonged to Sidney Chaplin, son of Charlie Chaplin, namesake of his uncle. Historical research has also yielded information on windshield restoration. In fact, the latter was made by the specialist Spadaro in the 60s. At that time, no spare parts for the Ferrari were to be had, so Spadaro had to improvise. Because the windshield was broken and none were to be had, Spadaro went to a junk yard and found the closest fit, though it needed to be split. This is the reason why it is the only Europe with a split window.
