This race was named to Antònio Oscar Fragoso Carmona (1869-1951), Portuguese general and statesman who rose to political prominence in the wake of the successful military revolt of 1926 and who, as the 11th president of Portugal from 1928 to 1951. The race was organized by Automovel Club de Portugal at Campo Grande Park in Lisboa, Portugal.
