Virginia International Raceway (VIR), opened in 1957 near Alton, Virginia, quickly became one of America’s most respected natural-terrain road courses. With its fast, flowing layout and significant elevation changes, the circuit attracted strong SCCA fields and later professional series, earning a reputation as one of the finest driver’s tracks in the United States. Closed in 1974 and revived in 2000, VIR remains a landmark of American road-racing heritage.
