#TonyRolt

Major Anthony Peter Roylance Rolt, known as Tony Rolt, was a distinguished British racing driver, engineer, and war hero. He began his motorsport career before WWII, taking part in the 1939 Le Mans 24 Hours and winning the British Empire Trophy. Captured during the war, he made multiple escape attempts from German POW camps and was later awarded the Military Cross. After the war, he resumed racing and achieved victory at Le Mans in 1953 alongside Duncan Hamilton in a Jaguar C-Type. A pioneer of four-wheel drive technology, Rolt co-founded Ferguson Research and helped develop the Ferguson P99, the first 4WD Formula One car. His legacy bridges pre-war Grand Prix competition, endurance racing, and engineering innovation.
