#PieroTaruffi

Piero Taruffi (1906–1988) was an Italian racing driver, motorcycle champion and engineer whose career uniquely bridged competition, technical innovation and record-setting. Exceptionally versatile, he won the 1957 Mille Miglia—the final edition of the legendary road race—and the 1952 Swiss Grand Prix for Ferrari, adding numerous international podiums across sports cars, Formula 1 and endurance events. Before turning to automobiles, Taruffi had already distinguished himself in motorcycle racing, earning titles and establishing high-speed records. A pioneer in aerodynamics, he designed and drove a series of streamlined record cars, while his engineering work contributed to advanced prototypes and to the revolutionary Gilera Rondine, the liquid-cooled, supercharged four-cylinder motorcycle that set multiple world records. Beyond competition, he authored “The Technique of Motor Racing,” one of the most influential manuals on driving and racecraft. His combined achievements as racer, innovator and technical thinker place him among the most significant figures in the history of motorsport.
