#PieroDrogo

Piero Drogo (1926–1973) was an Italian racing driver, entrepreneur and one of the best-known figures connected with Modena’s small specialist coachbuilding scene of the 1960s. After beginning his racing career in Venezuela, he returned to Italy and settled in Modena, where he also worked as a racing mechanic for Stanguellini. As a driver, he took part in sports car races and made one Formula One World Championship start, finishing eighth in the 1960 Italian Grand Prix with a Cooper. In the same period he became involved in the creation of Carrozzeria Sports Cars, the Modenese workshop often associated with his name and commonly known simply as “Drogo”. The company produced, repaired and rebodied competition and GT cars for clients including Ferrari, Bizzarrini, Iso, Maserati, ASA, Scuderia Serenissima, NART and others. Although Drogo became the public face of the firm and used his racing-world contacts to attract work, some sources caution that he should not be treated as the sole designer or craftsman behind its bodies, which were the result of the workshop’s collective skills and often of close collaboration with clients.

We'll publish a biography on him on the occasion of his anniversary or when it will be reached a sufficient number of cars.
