It is one of the oldest competitions in Italy. The first edition was held on September 28th 1913. The idea of organizing a car race, to be included in the celebrations for the Verdian Centenary, was by a group of pioneers of Parma motor sport. Twenty-one speed editions, fifteen, from 1913 to 1955, on the Parma-Poggio di Berceto stretch and six editions from 1962 to 1975, on the Fornovo-Monte Cassio stretch. Internationally renowned drivers participated to the race, such as Giuseppe Campari, Antonio Ascari, Luigi Villoresi and Enzo Ferrari who in 1919 chose Parma-Poggio di Berceto as a debut in the world of competitions, sitting behind the wheel of a CMN.
