Marco Fainello is an esteemed Italian mechanical engineer, renowned for his pivotal role in Ferrari's dominance in Formula 1 during the early 2000s. Born on September 12, 1964, in Verona, Italy, he graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, focusing his thesis on tyre dynamics. He began his professional career at the Fiat Research Centre, where he collaborated with Professor Hans B. Pacejka, becoming widely recognized for his expertise in tyre behavior. In 1995 he joined Ferrari, initially as track engineer, and by 1997 he was appointed Head of Vehicle Dynamics. As a key member of the so-called “Dream Team” alongside Todt, Brawn, Byrne and Schumacher, he contributed to six Constructors' Championships and five Drivers' Championships between 2000 and 2004. From 2002 to 2007 he worked closely with Bridgestone, optimizing tyre development for race applications. Later, he was instrumental in the development of the Ferrari FXX-K and other special projects, bringing simulation and dynamics expertise to the design of track-focused models. His contribution also extended to the Ferrari SP program, where his role in refining vehicle behavior and dynamics helped bridge the gap between exclusive customer requests and technical feasibility. After leaving Ferrari, he held technical leadership roles at Danisi Engineering and AddFor, applying his skills to simulation technologies and artificial intelligence. He remains actively involved in education and research, collaborating with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia within the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari”.
We'll publish a biography on him on the occasion of his anniversary or when it will be reached a sufficient number of cars.
