Managing Director of the book publishers Motor Racing Publications and well known to for his motor sport journalism, going back to the editorship of Motoring News in the 1950s, his series of racing car track tests in Motor Racing magazine in the 1960s, and his work as motor racing correspondent for The Times for 20 years from 1970. He was also the author of numerous motor racing books including definitive works on the Cosworth DFV engine and Formula Junior. John served as Chairman of the Guild of Motoring Writers in 1973 and 1982 and was twice winner of the Guild’s Montagu of Beaulieu Trophy.
