João de Lacerda was the son of Dr. Jerome de Lacerda, who was a pioneer in creating a model village. Caramulo was created in 1921 and was the first village in the country to have basic sanitation and electricity and the only planned Portuguese town. Abel de Lacerda, doctor of Tondela, discovered at the beginning of the century the climate virus, and that starts the progressive growth of a lung disease treatment that boasted about two dozen sanatoriums. João de Lacerda was born in 1923 in Caramulo. After completing high school he decides to follow the tradition of his ancestors in Medicine. With the death of his brother Abel in 1957 in a tragic accident, he took the direction of the resort. In the fifties Abel de Lacerda, passionate for art, built a modern building, to expose a collection of works of art made up of 500 pieces of painting, sculpture, furniture, ceramics and tapestries, ranging from Roman times to Picasso. His brother João de Lacerda in love with cars, built another building next door, designed to expose cars and motorbikes in order to facilitate its access, to expose and save. Hard worker, dedicated all his time and strength to their land, completing and giving way to the idea initiated by his brother Abel, the construction of the museum building, which can in record time. It is João de Lacerda that creates the Abel Lacerda Foundation, in honor of his brother, and it is your love and commitment that is due, almost exclusively, what is now the Caramulo Museum. www.museu-caramulo.net
