Giulio Coltellacci (Rome, June 16, 1916 – Rome, March 15, 1983) was an Italian set and costume designer active in theater, opera, and cinema. After earning a degree in architecture, he studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome and began his career in the early 1940s, initially working on experimental productions. He soon became one of the leading Italian scenographers of the post-war period. Coltellacci collaborated with major directors including Luchino Visconti, Giorgio Strehler, and Franco Zeffirelli, designing sets and costumes for the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, Teatro alla Scala, and other major institutions in Italy and abroad. His style combined architectural precision with expressive use of materials and historical research. In cinema, he worked on costume design for notable films by directors such as Fellini and De Sica. He taught scenography at the Accademia di Belle Arti and left a significant mark on the evolution of 20th-century Italian stage design.
