#GaressioSanBernardo
The Garessio–San Bernardo is a historic hill climb race held in the Ligurian Alps, connecting the town of Garessio to the Colle San Bernardo at an elevation of 957 meters. The inaugural event took place on September 2, 1956, with Piero Campanella winning in an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce. Over the years, the race has seen participation from notable drivers such as Gigi Taramazzo, who secured eight victories in the 1960s and 1970s, earning him the title "King of the Colle." Ada Pace, known by her pseudonym "Sayonara," made history in 1962 by winning in an Osca 1000, marking a significant moment for female drivers in motorsport. The original hill climb format was held for 17 editions until 1974, with a hiatus in 1973 due to the energy crisis. The event was later revived as a slalom race, accumulating 29 editions up to 2018. The course, approximately 4 kilometers long with eight challenging hairpin bends, continues to attract enthusiasts and competitors, maintaining its legacy in Italian motorsport history.
