Eric David Thompson (1919–2015) was a distinguished British racing driver and Le Mans veteran, remembered as one of the finest gentleman drivers of the post-war era. Active mainly in the late 1940s and 1950s, Thompson competed in sports car events with Aston Martin, Frazer Nash, and Lagonda, and was known for his smooth style and mechanical sympathy. He notably finished 3rd overall at the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans in an Aston Martin DB2, and took part in a single Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1952 with Connaught. Beyond driving, he was a respected motor insurance broker and later an accomplished motorsport historian and author. His blend of intellect, professionalism and quiet competitiveness made him a beloved figure in British racing circles.
