#DoningtonPark

Donington Park is a historic motorsport circuit in Castle Donington, Leicestershire, England. Originally part of the Donington Hall estate, it was first used for racing in 1931 by the Derby & District Motor Club, using existing estate roads. These were later upgraded to create a permanent circuit by 1933–1934. The track hosted four pre-war Donington Grand Prix events between 1935 and 1938, including celebrated appearances by the German Silver Arrows teams from Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz, which brought international attention to the venue. During the Second World War, Donington Park was requisitioned by the military and converted into a vehicle storage depot. It remained in disuse until 1971, when it was purchased by local businessman Tom Wheatcroft, who undertook a full restoration of the circuit. Racing resumed in 1977, and in 1993 Donington hosted its only Formula One World Championship race—the European Grand Prix—made famous by Ayrton Senna's spectacular first lap in wet conditions. In the years that followed, Donington became the preferred venue for the British round of the MotoGP World Championship and also hosted World Superbike races, the British Touring Car Championship, and British GT races. It is also the home of the Donington Historic Festival, a major annual event for vintage racing cars.
