#DoningtonGrandPrix
The Donington Grand Prix was a pre-war international motor race held at Donington Park in England between 1935 and 1938. Organized initially by the Derby & District Motor Club and later by the Automobile Racing Club, the event quickly rose in prominence, attracting top European teams and drivers. Notably, it marked one of the first major international Grands Prix hosted in Britain, prior to the establishment of the British Grand Prix. Early editions saw competition from ERA, Maserati, and Bugatti, but the 1937 and 1938 races gained global attention with the entry of the German "Silver Arrows" from Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union, bringing full factory teams and drivers such as Bernd Rosemeyer, Hermann Lang, and Tazio Nuvolari. The Donington Grand Prix showcased the emerging capabilities of British circuits and helped solidify Donington Park as a serious venue for international motorsport before the war interrupted racing in 1939. The event is historically significant for introducing British spectators to the spectacle of continental Grand Prix racing on home soil.
