#CourseDeCoteMontVentoux
The Course de côte du Mont Ventoux was a legendary and historic hill climb race held from 1902 to 1976 on the road from Bédoin to the Mont Ventoux summit, spanning approximately 21.5 km with a vertical ascent of around 1600 meters. Organized initially by the Automobile Club Vauclusien and supported by l’Auto-Vélo, it quickly became Europe’s longest and most demanding hill climb, attracting both automobile and motorcycle competitors. The event was a key round of the European Hill Climb Championship from its inaugural season in 1957 through to 1973. Drivers completed two timed runs on the narrow and punishing route, which featured gradients of up to 13% and climbed to nearly 1900 meters above sea level. Known for its combination of length, altitude, and technical difficulty, the Mont Ventoux climb was regarded as a supreme test of both driver skill and mechanical reliability. The original event was halted in 1976 due to safety concerns but returned in 1988 in shortened form and was later revived in 2017 as the Montée Historique du Mont Ventoux, a non-competitive regularity climb for pre-1990 historic cars. It remains one of the most iconic mountain racing venues in European motorsport history.
