#CoppaNissena
The Coppa Nissena is an annual hill climb held near Caltanissetta in Sicily. Founded in 1922 to inaugurate a local war memorial, the original event spanned 166.6 km over two laps, but it was suspended during World War II and revived in 1949 as a shorter hill climb. The current route covers approximately 5.45 km with an average gradient of 4.19 percent and rises from Ponte Capodarso to Villaggio Santa Barbara at around 545 m altitude. It is one of Italy’s most prestigious regional hill climbs, part of both the Italian Hill Climb Championship and the Mountain Trophy. In the 1960s the event entered the prototype era, featuring winners such as Clemente Ravetto, Nino Vaccarella, Carlo Facetti, Domenico Scola, and Mauro Nesti, who claimed multiple victories between the 1980s and 1990s. A centenary edition was celebrated in 2022, underscoring the Coppa Nissena’s status as Sicily’s oldest and most historic hill climb.
