#ArthurCharlesDobson

Arthur Charles Dobson was a British racing driver active during the 1930s, best known for his involvement with English Racing Automobiles (ERA) in the voiturette class. He was the younger brother of Austin Dobson, also a racing driver. Arthur began his career driving Bugattis and a Riley before acquiring a private ERA in early 1937. His performances soon earned him a position with the ERA works team, stepping in after Earl Howe's serious crash at Brooklands. Dobson reportedly won the Prix de Berne and the JCC 200 in 1937, and continued to compete with ERA machinery during the 1939 season. Notably, he was among the rare British privateers to compete in Italy before the war, appearing at the 1938 Gran Premio di Milano. Though some reports claim he made a controversial salute during the driver introductions, this detail remains unverified. Arthur Dobson's racing career, though brief, placed him among the notable British voiturette competitors of the pre-war era.
