2024 Mille Miglia, Vesco blows away the competition again. 21 Automotive Masterpieces on the route.
June 17, 2024
The 2,200-kilometer tour of the 2024 Mille Miglia, from June 11th to 15th, has concluded for the 421 crews who followed the Brescia - Rome - Brescia route, with the new additions of Turin and Genoa stages.
Andrea Vesco achieved a hard-to-match record, winning for the seventh time, the fifth consecutive, and the fourth in a row with his steadfast co-driver Fabio Salvinelli, in their trusty 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS Spider Zagato. “We are happy, how could we not be! – Vesco commented right after the race – ...this year we led from the first trial and always maintained our advantage.” Behind them, there was a fierce battle: in the end, Gianmario Fontanella and Anna Maria Covelli secured a well-deserved 2nd place with their 1927 Lancia Lambda Casaro VII Serie, listed among the Automotive Masterpieces, followed in 3rd place by Alberto Aliverti and Stefano Valente, also competing with a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C.
In the collateral events: Frank Binder and Giordano Mozzi in a 296 GTS won the Ferrari Tribute; Mirco Magni and Alessandro Ferruta claimed victory in the 1000 Miglia Green with a Polestar 2, while the 1000 Miglia Experience went to Ismaele and Marco Luigi Ghilardelli in a Mercedes AMG GT C.
Alongside the Lambda of Fontanella - Covelli in 2nd place, this edition saw a significant representation of crews with cars listed among the Automotive Masterpieces, as has become customary. There were 21 AM examples racing, representing the full range of possible cars: 2 Lancia Lambda, two Alfa Romeo 6C (a 1750 and a 2300 MM), a Chrysler 72, a Cisitalia 202, 3 Fiat 1100 (B, S, and TV), 2 Fiat 1400, a Porsche 356, 3 Lancia Aurelia (a B21 and two B20), a Ferrari 225 S, 2 Fiat 8V (Rapi and ZAGATO), an Ermini Sport Internazionale, an Autobleu 750 Mille Miles, and the Italian sweetheart Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint.
