THE HISTORY ON PARADE
September 26, 2024
STARTING POINT
The history of the Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 with chassis number 6C 700635 is very well known for most of its unfolding. It was in fact the personal car of the dictator Benito Mussolini, used literally as a propaganda “vehicle” during the regime’s parades and displays of strength, such as the Great Maneuvers in Trentino-Alto Adige, at the end of August 1935. Mussolini then wanted the car to participate in the 1936 edition of the Mille Miglia, driven by his driver-pilot Ercole Boratto. Many images from the time portray the car on these occasions, including some footage from the Istituto Luce.
RESEARCH
Our research work has brought to light the presence of the car, with Mussolini at the military review of the blackshirt legions leaving for East Africa, in Benevento and Isernia. Many photos and testimonials from the press of the time have been found. Other material was found to validate and document the car's participation in the Mille Miglia. Of another photo of unknown origin, the circumstance in which it was taken has been identified, that is, during a review of the dictator in Eastern Liguria. Finally, to follow the historical continuity of the specimen, evidence of witnesses and documents of the changes of ownership of the car in its most recent history were found and brought to light.
